Inclusive design can start with visual (re)presentation. It is crucial for queer UI and UX design to present a variety of identities and realities. This includes not only the use of inclusive language, but also the careful incorporation of symbols, colors and images that represent a variety of gender identities and sexual orientations.
Colors can be used to express different feelings and identities. Symbols that represent different identities within the LGBTQ2IA+ community can also be incorporated to promote visible recognition and appreciation.
Images and graphics should reflect diversity in terms of gender identity, sexual orientation, ethnicity, age and body shapes. By depicting a wide range of characters and scenarios, designers can ensure that users recognize themselves in the representation and build a connection to the platform.
